
Ormond was the daughter Josephine of a lab technician, and John Ormond (a stockbroker) from Epsom, Surrey. Ormond is the second child of five children to her parents. Her first appearances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted attention. She went on to Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a single year at art school, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art which she attended until 1988. Ormond made her first appearance on British television's 1989 drama Traffik. It revolved around illicit heroin trade between the far East as well as the streets of Europe. Ormond played the drug-addicted daughter of the main character, who was a Home Office minister in the UK government that was involved in fighting heroin importation. The first role he played earned rave reviews.
